After many months of work the new digital KI Community Directory is live.
The much-loved directory is a collaboration between the Kangaroo Island Business and Brand Alliance (KIBBA) and Junction.
The new directory will have business and community listings online. When it is printed later this year it will also include updated residential listings.
Junction co-ordinator Maree Baldwin acknowledged the volunteers and staff at KI Children’s Services (KICS) for their 30 years of work on the much-loved directory and for entrusting KIBBA and Junction Australia to be custodians for the new edition.
“We are honoured to continue the tradition and work of the directory volunteers over so many years. I’d like to also thank KICS director Lucy Williams for her support and contribution in handing over to us.
“We will honour the spirit of the tradition, including using local school artwork for the cover,” Ms Baldwin said.
KIBBA Deputy Chair Sharon Kauppila said the new directory would be a valuable resource for businesses and residents.
“The directory has so many uses. For example, in the recent bushfires it proved to be a valuable resource for the Incident Management Team,” Ms Kauppila said. “And while we are moving to a digital format first, we see this as augmenting the hard copy, not replacing it.”
The new directory is housed online at www.kangarooisland.org.au and the more it is used, the more it will pop up in people’s searches for local businesses. You can go there now to check your business or community listing and follow the links to update or upgrade as necessary.
The digital business and community listings will be used to update the printed version so it is important to update them online.
Original committee member Jean Dennis remembers the decision to print the first directory.
“We had seen a similar directory from another country area and we thought it would be useful here and it has certainly been a great fundraiser for children’s services over the years,” she said.
A letter has been posted to all Islanders soon for them to update their residential listing. Advertising in the print directory will be notified in a few weeks.
