Kangaroo Island is located 13.5 kilometres from the mainland at its closest point. It encompasses an area of 4,400 square kilometres and has a resident population of approximately 4,500. The Council is responsible for the management of 1,100 kilometres of unsealed roads and 250 kilometres of sealed roads. The Island enjoys approx. 270,000 visitors each year, which is steadily increasing.
Our Council of Elected Members comprises the Mayor and nine councillors. Kangaroo Island Council was formed in 1996 following the amalgamation of the District Councils of Kingscote and Dudley.
