The 2018 Kangaroo Island Easter Art Exhibition opens on Good Friday, 30 March. Time to let the creative ideas flow!

‘Watch This Space’ is the theme for the major award category, the Peter Walker Prize, giving artists unlimited scope and open to works in any medium. Aside from the prestige of winning, what better inducement than first prize of $2,000, and second prize of $1,000.

We are honoured to have the Art Gallery of South Australia’s continued support of the exhibition, the island’s highest profile art event. This year’s AGSA judge is Leigh Robb, Curator of Contemporary Art.

Leigh has extensive knowledge of both Australian and international contemporary art, and more than 15 years’ experience. Previously she was Curator at the Perth Institute of Contemporary Arts where she curated over 30 exhibitions. Before this she held positions at the Thomas Dane Gallery, London, and the Peggy Guggenheim Collection, Venice.

Leigh is delighted to be involved. ‘The Kangaroo Island Easter Art Exhibition’, she says, ‘brings together experienced artists as well as budding art stars and creates a space to share their latest works and ideas. Spanning all generations of artists and traversing most mediums, the exhibition offers diverse encounters with contemporary art practices. As a judge and a curator, it’s an exciting opportunity for me to see which artists are challenging themselves and their art forms with ambitious new work, and to track emerging talent.’

In 2016 AGSA Director Nick Mitzevich and fellow judge Melinda Rankin were bowled over by the standard of works on display. For Nick, the exhibition was ‘a great joy’. He said, ‘It is clear that the passionate supporters − both the organising committee and the islands’ artists – make it a wonderful event. Charge on!!’
